I am seeking a
manager position in a storage facility.
In 2006 the
storage owner, where I am currently employed as
resident manager, offered the facility for sale. I
am currently ready to relocate, I was thrilled to
see your ad. My experience previous to my 3 years
as storage manager is in a variety of industries. My
business in NYC, House Calls for Hair, serving
disabled and elderly, required my staff and me to be
creative thinkers, thoroughly organized, patient
with all cultures and challenges, reliable drivers
and map readers, etc. My attempt to reestablish my
business in Santa Cruz received a lukewarm
reception. Santa Cruz County granted me a $5,000
computer scholarship to improve my marketability.
When I arrived at my present position the office was
devoid of a working phone to forward to cell phone,
computer, internet service, web site, bookkeeping
system, method of accepting online payments, fax,
and key board or system of key organization. Several
units were filled with disorganized items, many were
not rentable.I use QuickBooks, create and print all
business cards, invoices, flyers and graphics, and
created a map of the facility in Excel, (please see
attachment for map), etc. I have installed all of
the aforementioned, landscaped the office area, and
maintain the property in a tidy, caring manner. I
was in construction as a dump truck driver. Backing
up large vehicles has proved a very useful skill on
the storage property. I was a UHaul dealer at my
present location. It was an opportunity to interface
with a national company and their dispatching,
record keeping and customer satisfaction procedures.
My experience as a small business owner, HCFH, and
resident manager have required me to learn to be
effective in generating clients, customers and
profits. Lake Tahoe has a wonderful community
college very nearby. I attend 7 a.m. exercise
classes and evening Spanish classes. I can
communicate on a basic level in Spanish. I have
accustomed myself to studying and taking tests, and
look forward to specialized storage courses.
Now to the
future. I am available as of the beginning of 2010.
I scanned the information on Self Storage Training
and would like to start their courses. Presently, we
employ a 10 hour per week maintenance employee.
Although I can lift 50 pounds, and have a
construction helpers background, I find it is good
to have the extra office coverage when I have to
leave the premises during the day. I am available 7
days a week, so I sometimes have to run errands,
etc. The maintenance person assists tenants, rents
units, collects rent, and properly maintains the
storage units and property. This arrangement is very
worthwhile for the few days a year that I visit my
son and his wife, in Salt Lake City. The maintenance
man is already in place, the tenants are familiar
with him, and generally unaware that I am taking a
brief vacation. I am very security conscious because
I am a NYC native. My dog is well behaved and
barks when someone drives up, etc. I feel secure
with her.
I have a clean
record and strong references.
Thank you for
your attention.
